Amazon Web Services

Amazon Web Services is the largest public cloud provider globally with approximately 31% market share, and the platform against which all others are benchmarked. AWS pioneered IaaS with EC2 (2006) and object storage with S3, and subsequently defined the serverless compute category with Lambda. Their breadth — over 200 services across compute, storage, networking, AI/ML, analytics, databases, and security — is unmatched. AWS infrastructure spans 33 geographic regions with multiple availability zones each, delivering the highest availability SLAs in the industry. For solutions architects, AWS's shared responsibility model, IAM permission system, and VPC networking constructs are foundational knowledge. AWS is the dominant platform for cloud-native startups, internet-scale applications, and increasingly, regulated enterprise workloads.
