HashiCorp
HashiCorp created the infrastructure-as-code category with Terraform and the secrets management category with Vault — both of which have become default tools in the DevOps and platform engineering toolchain. Terraform's provider ecosystem (7,000+ providers) allows declarative provisioning across every major cloud, on-premises hypervisor, and SaaS platform, making it the multi-cloud IaC standard. Vault handles secrets lifecycle management (dynamic credentials, PKI, encryption-as-a-service) and is widely mandated in zero-trust architecture implementations. Consul provides service mesh and service discovery for microservices environments. HashiCorp was acquired by IBM in 2024, with HCP (HashiCorp Cloud Platform) continuing as the managed, enterprise tier of their toolchain.
